At just 1.2 km² and under 5,000 residents, Gordon Park remains one of Brisbane City Council’s smallest suburbs. Its quiet charm and village vibe give it the feel of a tight-knit community rather than an inner-suburban location.
Gordon Park was named in honour of General Charles “Chinese” Gordon, the Victorian-era military figure famed for defending Khartoum in 1885. The original Gordon Park Estate was launched in the late 1880s, and many streets still reflect his military legacy — think Gordon Street, Khartoum Street, and Baker Street.
29 Jack Street is an example of one of Gordon Park’s earliest surviving residences, dating from the late 19th century. It offers a rare glimpse into the suburb’s agrarian past and early settler lifestyle.
Long before European settlement, the Turrbal people, often referred to by early settlers as the “Duke of York’s Clan”, lived and camped along what is now Kedron Brook, including Gordon Park lands. Historical accounts record local Turrbal leaders writing early protests to local newspapers by 1858. DLG Electrical, your Electrician Gordon Park.
